Go Hard or Go Home!
OK. So this is precisely why Kim didn't want me playing softball. At 38, I still have only one gear. In my defense, I scored on the play. After beating out a grounder, I failed to slide a second on the next batter, drawing criticism from the opposing team. At third, the play was close, so I slid. The ball got by the 3rd baseman and I bolted for home (as fast as a fat 38-year-old can run). The play at home was close, so I slid again. In hind sight, I should have stayed at third. Although, I actually think the damage was done before I headed home! OUCH!

Weighty Subject
Ok, here's the deal. I have exactly 59 days until my class reunion. I have lost a grand totoal of 2 pounds in 2 months. My goal is 20 lbs by my reunion. That means I have to lose a little over 2 lbs a week for the next 8 weeks. GO! I have been up and out of the house by 6:30 the last two days riding my bike. I will also have to start watching what I eat... Memorial Day weekend was not good. I ate too much crap. Yesterday I had a Dr. Pepper. Water from now on. I'll keep you up to date!

Softball and Storms
Friday, Kim and I, along with the rest of the Southside Teamworx softball team were back on the diamond. When we arrived Coach Hooper says "Dee, can you pitch?" "Absolutely coach, whatever I can do to help!" Innings one and two went well. 1 run and a strike out... then they figured me out. Inning three saw me allow three runs, but we were still in it at 4-2. The fourth inning, the wheels fell off. I allowed 8 runs to end the game in a 12-2 run-rule. The most devastating was the home run I gave up. It was a monumental shot. After the game, JD ran up to me and excitedly said "Dad, Dad, that guy that hit the home run... he hit it clear over that road back there. He hit it really far!" Thanks son, you really know how to make your old man feel good.
Sunday we spent the afternoon and early evening at Kanopolis Lake, in the Yankee Run area on the west side. It was a nice day, we caught a few fish, cooked out, had smores, and visited with Linda and Andrew. Around 5:30 we got a call that Ellsworth County was under a Tornado Warning. We packed up while JD sat in the car in the fetal position -- he is a baby when it comes to storms. As we left I monitored the situation on KSAL. We headed south from Yankee Run, as we listened to developing reports of 'possible' tornadic storms from Salina back west. We hung to the south of them as we headed toward Ellsworth, taking dirt roads west accross the county always leaving an exit to the south if needed. At one point we stopped to watch the clouds before heading north. At that point Kaylee started freaking out and JD (honest to God) became a comforter. Rising above his fears to console his little sister. "It's OK, Sis. We'll be fine. The storms are a long ways off. Do you need to hold my hand?" I think he may have matured just a little there...

My new (old) car apparently is having trouble discerning where its crank shaft is located. Remarkably, the repair shop was able to recreate the issue I was having with the car -- it died on them too! That allowed them to determine that the crank shaft position sensor and the ignition module were bad. The crank shaft position sensor and ignition module work in concert to determine which cylinder needs to fire and in which order. These two parts replaced what used to be the distributor on an engine.
I met with a Republican candidtate on Monday that we have worked with in the past. The meeting was great... she thought she would have a primary opponent and was gearing up for another campaign. Today, I read in the Capital Journal that she will not run this year. DAMN! But, using deductive reasoning I figured out who was going to run for her Senate seat. My assistant called him and he was floored that we knew he was preparing (within the hour) to announce that he was running for her seat! We lost a client, but may have picked one up with our quick action.

Apple Pie and Lemons
Ah, the great American pasttime (or at least it used to be) -- Baseball! JD had a tournament in Augusta this weekend, his team finished 1 and 2. Scheduled game times Saturday were 11:00 AM and 8:30 PM. Actual game times Saturday were 11:37 AM and 10:05 PM, with an encore performance at 9:30 Sunday morning. The late game Saturday saw us facing a remarkable 10 year old pitcher. He faced 10 batters, striking out 9 and walking 1. We were run ruled in the third inning and didn't even bat our entire line up of 11. JD was the only Viper to put the bat on the ball, fouling off 4 straight pitches before striking out. He did have a great play in center. He fielded a hot shot up the middle and threw a strike to the catcher who tagged a runner out at home!
Now on to making lemonade out of lemons. I picked up my grandma's car this weekend and had to baby it home. It died on me three times between Wichita and Salina. American Sucks!
I'm not sure if this is American's fault or not, but I need a scapegoat and they are as good as any...
At KCI, we were standing in line for security and the fire alarm went off. Security evacuated the entire terminal... twenty minutes before the flight was scheduled to take off, they let us back in. Everyone had to go through the security check again -- including the people that had previously cleared and were waiting at the gate. We were only delayed about 20 minutes which was a miracle.
The flight was uneventful. But when we landed in Chicago, the jetway wouldn't rotate to connect with the jet, so we were stuck on the plane while maintenance worked to fix it. About 20 minutes later it was fully functional and we were able to exit the plane...
On the bright side, my ears feel great!

Monday Morning Blues
Monday is here, so am I...
We had a good weekend. K, JD and I went out with friends Friday for her birthday. Then mom and dad were here Saturday. Out to eat again for Kay's birthday at noon. The kids and I took Kim out for Dinner Saturday evening for her birthday. K had a party at nana's Sunday. JD went to a party for one of the boys on his baseball team.
In between all that, JD and I rode the Harley a little. I played golf -- if you want to call it that! I shot a 44 on the front at Ellsworth, which is decent for me, but a 51 on the back. Good news is I did not lose any golf balls...a major accomplishment for me.
When I got home last night, I mowed, moved a dead squirrel to the street, piled up limbs, watered the dog, and folded clothes. Wow, what an exciting life I lead!
I just read that PETA wants the jockey that rode the doomed philly Eight Belles in the Kentucky Derby suspended because she broke her legs and had to be euthanized. I read the whole story and still cannot figure out why PETA thinks someone that weighs 120 lbs is responsible for a 1,000 lb animal breaking her legs... If PETA put as much time and money into a worthy cause, like protecting abused children, the world would be a better place!
I have my parents Trailblazer for a week. They wanted my pickup to move things from Oklahoma. I'm enjoying the gas mileage while I am sure they are not! The Trailblazer has Sirius Radio. I am diggin' that!

Day two...
Today started with a meeting, followed by two more meetings, followed by another meeting. It is 11:45 and I am finally sitting at my desk...preparing for three days in Chicago with two clients and some prospects at PTXi, more commonly known at the the Powder Show.
Today is Kaylee's Birthday. She is excited. She got a bat for her birthday... not the wing-flapping, blood-sucking kind, but the aluminum softball-smashing type. Practice starts Tuesday and she really wanted a new bat!
Kimmie's B-day is tomorrow. I still need to shop (sorry, hon). Usually I have the perfect gift purchased weeks in advance, but I have been busy lately. She'll be in Lawrence until later tomorrow afternoon, so I have plenty of time left to find the best gift. Maybe I should get her a new dishwasher! :-) OK, maybe not...

Keys
Today is my day. I take the reins with some regret... Last night I kept thinking about Eric. He loved this place and I hope he made the choice for him, not for the 14 other people that work here. This morning, my staff had a surprise for me. They got me a card and a key with a tag that says "MarketAide, President" on one side and "Dee Warren, May 1, 2008" on the other. I am blessed to have such a great staff. I also got a 7" Cuban Cigar from Sarah. Haven't decided whether to smoke it or not.
